To quench the thirst of all those who are curious about a breeder's life..Some of you who have been envious, excited or even dreamt to be one in the future. Probably not an extreme type who lives supported by the income from selling the kittens, but probably having multiple cats to breed and have litters in a year round.
The fact about breeding is that, it is not a "Career" u can expand your potential and maximize your income nor it is able to provide u with a security of its sustainability. Simple questions to be answered before immerging yourself into adopting those cutie little evil in exchange for a poor future plan that might ruin your financial capability.
Too idealistic is certainly not wise in life. What if i tell u that everything is up site down, left was the right and your front was your back.
Firstly, every breeder starts with something before they banged into the circle evolving around with cats. They could be a groomer, pet food promoter, merchandise manager, vet, pet photographer, animal television producer and show judges. They simply do not just see that the business is lucrative and then start their journey into massive breeding.
A responsible breeder works 24/7 , no holidays, no weekends, no unwanted nonsense that will get in the way to give them whatever they need to live comfortably. Not to mentioned, cleaning up their litter tray every 3 to 4 hours a day, Feed them 2 to 3 times a day, have a little play time with them and checking up every quarter of the year. When a queen give birth to her litter.. work load is tripled.
Notwithstanding that a successful breeding brings self content, share of joy and some money in return. It is not a guarantee that they will all be delivered, wean, grow up and not suffer from any sickness or natural disabilities regardless of how healthy their parents were or whether they are genetically sound. This is where the climax lies. U may loose everything u earned from the last successful experience to compensate for the next disaster. It is always a bet of 50- 50 chances of winning. As for more money that could only last a while for the maintenance for them. A poor management could lead to burnt savings.
Having a pet is a " Hobby" that comes with a responsibility. Breeding is a " Hobby" that comes with an obligation.
Many heart broken moments, when many were not able to make it. However it is not more disappointing when complaints were heard simply because people have been asking for perfection without considering the possibility of attaining it and the necessity to go for extremities.
Well, it ahould not always be that sad of a story of a breeder. U may wondered. Why are there still people getting into the hobby if they would eventually got back fired ?
Wisdom comes with age as knowledge comes from experience my dear... eliminate the set backs is all we could do.
